PROJECTS LAUNCHED IN HANDLOOM SECTOR
The government has recently started refurbished Handloom Haat along with three projects launched in handloom sector in India.
About
• Union Textiles Minister inaugurated the refurbished Handloom Haat in New Delhi.
• During inauguration three more projects of National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) were launched.
• The three projects include:
– VisionNXT: It is a trend forecasting initiative creating an indigenous fashion forecasting service which endeavours to produce handloom products as per market requirement in terms of trends, design and color forecast.
– Textiles and Crafts Repository: This will house the virtual registers of the textiles and crafts resources which are available in the Weaver Service Centres, the Crafts Museums, similar institutions and private collections.
– The Craft Cluster Initiative will be channelled into a national knowledge portal.
– The repository will develop a virtual museum of textiles and textile crafts.
– Design Innovation and Incubator (DII): It is intended to support young entrepreneurs, artisans, start-ups, NIFT alumni and students for business development.
